We were asked to consult to an academic institution in the United States. The brief was initially to assist in bringing everyone together to work on the institute’s vision and branding. After carrying out Action Research on staff, faculty, students and the Leadership Team, the interview data showed that there was an urgent need to let go of events in the past and to rebuild trust. So rather than to disregard this data and work on the original brief, we re-contracted with our client to work on these ‘below the waterline’ issues. We ran a number of workshops/ working sessions designed to engage people with one another to acknowledge the past and identify what was needed to move forward. Stakeholders were left with action-points and recommended next steps.
